Timothy Hutton

Timothy T. Hutton was born on August 16, 1960 in Malibu, California. He is an American Academy Award-winning actor, the youngest ever to win the award for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 20.

Despite being the son of an actor and having a cameo in his father's film Never Too Late, Hutton did not really become interested in acting until ninth grade. He appeared as "Nathan Detroit" in Guys and Dolls and as Dionysius in The Bacchae. He also appeared with his father in a production of Harvey. Hutton left high school with an equivalency degree at age sixteen to devote more time to acting.

Hutton began building his career with appearances in made-for-tv movies such as And Baby Makes Six, The Best Place to Be and the critically-acclaimed Friendly Fire with Ned Beatty and Carol Burnett. But Hutton's career took off when he landed the role of "Conrad Jarrett" in Ordinary People, based on the Judith Guest novel of the same title. Directed by Robert Redford, Ordinary People, won four Academy Awards. Hutton won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, two Golden Globes and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's award for Best Suporting Actor for his realistic, sensitive portrayal of "Conrad Jarrett."

Hutton went on to appear in Taps, The Falcon and the Snowman, Turk 182!, Beautiful Girls, The General's Daughter, Substance of Fire, and many more films.

Hutton is married to Parisian-born graphic designer and children's book author and illustrator Aurore Giscard d'Estaing. D'Estaing is the niece of former French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing. They have one child, son Milo, born September 11, 2001 and they divide their time between New York and Paris. Hutton has a son, Emmanuel Noah, age fifteen, from his first marriage to actress Debra Winger.

Hutton has also served as a director and executive producer. He directed the film Digging to China with Kevin Bacon and Evan Rachel Wood, an episode of Amazing Stories, and music videos and concert videos for The Cars, Don Henley and Neil Young. He also directed several episodes of the Nero Wolfe TV series and served as an a co-executive producer for the series.

Hutton most recently appeared in John Sayles' film Sunshine State and as private detective "Archie Goodwin" in the excellent A&E TV series Nero Wolfe.
