Michael Caine

Michael Caine was born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite in South London on March 14th 1933. He is a two-time Academy Award-winning English film actor.

In the 1960s Michael Caine was the young British movie star with the cockney accent, appearing in Alfie (1966) and as the dark hero Harry Palmer in the spy film The Ipcress File (1965) and two sequels. In the 1970s he was memorable in The Man Who Would Be King (1975) and he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Woody Allen's 1986 movie Hannah and Her Sisters.

Caine won a second Oscar as the melancholy orphanage doctor in The Cider House Rules (1999). Often considered a working-class hero in the movies, Caine is a famously hard worker in real life, having appeared in over 80 films.

He also starred in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), Noises Off (1992), Little Voice (1998), The Cider House Rules (1999), The Quiet American (2002), and Children of Men (2006).

Caine was awarded the CBE and in 2000 he was knighted by the Queen and is now Sir Michael Caine.
