Christopher W. Cooper was born on July 9, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. He is an Academy Award-winning American film actor.

He made several notable performances in feature films, including Matewan, Money Train and Lone Star, before impressing critics with his portrayal of a homophobic Marine Corps Colonel in American Beauty.

He proved himself again in 2002 in the reality-bending film Adaptation starring opposite Nicolas Cage. His performance as the eccentric plant collector John Laroche earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2005, Cooper starred in Jarhead, Capote and Syriana.

Cooper resides in Kingston, Massachusetts, with his wife, Marianne Leone Cooper, whom he married in 1983.
