William Crudup was born on July 8, 1968 in Manhasset, New York, USA. He is a Tony Award winning American actor.

He gained notice as the rebellious brother Jacey in Inventing the Abbots (1997) and then played Oregon running legend Steve Prefontaine in Robert Towne's 1998 film Without Limits. On stage he appeared in the 1997 Broadway production of Chekhov's Three Sisters, among other productions.

In 2001 he had his most-publicized movie role yet, starring with Kate Hudson in the rock 'n roll nostalgia flick Almost Famous.

He also starred in Big Fish (2003), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and The Good Shepherd (2006).
