Jack Black was born Thomas J. Black, Jr. on August 28, 1969 in Hermosa Beach, California, USA. He is a Golden Globe Award nominated American actor, comedian and musician.
Black attended UCLA where he became a member of Tim Robbins’ Actors Gang, a Los Angeles-based performance troupe that has spawned the likes of John Cusack. Black would make his film debut with Robbins and later play opposite Cusack in one of his most memorable roles.
He also starred in Waterworld (1995), Dead Man Walking (1995), The Cable Guy (1996), Mars Attacks! (1996), The Jackal (1997), Enemy of the State (1998), and Cradle Will Rock (1999).
In a supporting role, he stole the show in High Fidelity (2000) and started getting lead roles in comedies, including Shallow Hal (2001) and Orange County (2002).
In 2004 he was the voice of Lenny in the animated feature Shark Tale (2004) and won the lead role of Carl Denham in Peter Jackson's King Kong (2005) with Adrien Brody. He then went back to comedy, appearing in 2006 in Nacho Libre, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny and The Holiday (2006) starred opposite Kate Winslet.
