Robin McLaurin Williams was born on July 21, 1951 in Chicago, Illinois. He is an Academy Award-winning American actor and comedian. He has had starring roles on television, stage, and film.

He became known to American audiences as the zany alien Mork in the television comedy series Mork and Mindy (1978–82).

He earned an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe Award for Good Morning Vietnam (1987), another Oscar nomination for Dead Poets Society (1989), and a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Good Will Hunting (1997).

Other important films include Awakenings (1990), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), and The Birdcage (1996). He provided the voice of the genie in Aladdin (1991), and the voice of Dr Know in Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001).

His other films include Insomnia (2002) with Al Pacino, One Hour Photo (2002), Robots (2005), David Duchovny's House of D (2004) and comedies RV (2006) and Man of the Year (2006).

Williams' first marriage was to Valerie Velardi on June 4, 1978, with whom he had one child, Zachary (born April 1983). The marriage ended in 1988. On April 30, 1989, he married Marsha Garces.

On June 29, 2006 Robin appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
