Gerard James Butler was born on November 13, 1969 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is the youngest of three children and spent time the first few years of his life in Canada before returning to Scotland. His mother and stepfather still live in Scotland. His father is deceased.

He has a law degree from Glasgow University, where he was also president of the school's law society, but he was fired from his firm one week before qualifying as a lawyer.

His primary residence is in London. He also has a loft in New York City, but he spends much of his time in Los Angeles.

Her passions are football, horse riding, skiing, water skiing. He is a lead singer in rock band "Speed".

He starred in Reign of Fire (2002), The Phantom of the Opera (2004) and epic blockbuster 300 (2006).

He has never been engaged or married.
