Meryl Streep

Mary Louise Streep mostly known as Meryl Streep was born on June 22, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey, USA. She is a two-time Academy Award-winning, six-time Golden Globe-winning, two-time SAG-winning, Grammy Award-nominated and two-time BAFTA Award-winning American actress who has worked in theatre, television, and film. Also she has been nominated for 14 Academy Awards -- more than any other actress in history.

Meryl Streep make her film debut in the 1970s with a role in the drama Julia (1977). The next year she appeared in The Deer Hunter opposite Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken, for which she earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. But it was her portrayal of a woman who abandons her family only to come back and fight for custody of her son in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) that brought her first Academy Award win for Best Actress.

A chameleon on screen, Meryl Streep spent much of the 1980s submerged in a variety of roles and speaking in numerous accents. In Sophie's Choice (1982), she convincingly played a Polish woman traumatized by her experiences during the Holocaust. Streep won her second Academy Award for her work on this film. In Out of Africa (1985), she took on the role of a Danish plantation owner living in Kenya.

In recent years, Meryl Streep has been as busy as ever. In 2002, she appeared to critically acclaimed films—The Hours and Adaptation. A versatile performer, Streep has shown her humorous side in the romantic comedy Prime (2005) and The Devil Wears Prada (2006), which brought her yet another Academy Award nomination.

During her long career, she has been nominated for an Academy Award for a total of 14 times in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories. Streep has also won an Emmy Award for her work on the television adaptation of the play Angels in America in 2004.

Her recent projects include such movies as, The Music of Regret (2006), The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and Dark Matter (2007).
