Johnny Depp was born June 9, 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky but grew up in Florida. Johnny Depp left school at the age of 15, around the same time as his parents were divorced and separated.

His first major film role was in Nightmare on Elm Street which led to a role on the television show "21 Jump Street" and a breakout role in the movie "Edward Scissorhands".

Other major film roles include "Donnie Brasco", "The Astronaut's Wife" and "Pirates of the Caribbean". In 2005 he appeared in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and The Libertine. In 2006 he appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest.

In his next film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Depp will play opposite Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

Johnny Depp's choice of roles in films have labeled the actor as somewhat quirky and adventurous. Many of the films Depp has starred in are dark, experimental and "arty".

He has two children (Lily-Rose and Jack) with his French born wife and singer Vanessa Paradis.
