John Hurt

John Vincent Hurt was born on January 22, 1940 in Shirebrook near Chesterfield Derbyshire. He is a two-time Academy Award-nominated, triple BAFTA Award- and Golden Globe-winning English actor.

Hurt's first film was 1962's The Wild and the Willing, but his first major role was as Richard Rich in 1966's A Man for All Seasons.

He also starred in The Naked Civil Servant (1975), Alien (1979) and in Mike Radford's Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984).

He won a British Academy Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Alan Parker's Midnight Express (1978) and a Best Actor award for his unsentimental performance in the title role of David Lynch's The Elephant Man (1980).

Other his roles include Second Best (1993), Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1993), Rob Roy (1995), Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) and V for Vendetta (2005).

His last credits include The Oxford Murders (2008) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).
