Anthony Perkins was born on April 4, 1932 in New York City, USA and died on September 12, 1992. He was an Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe-winning American stage and screen actor.
After working as a juvenile lead actor early in the 1950s, especially winning praise for his Broadway role in Tea and Sympathy (1954), Perkins put in strong performances in the films Tin Star (1957 and Fear Strikes Out (1956).
In 1960 he landed his most famous role as Norman Bates in Hitchcock's Psycho, one of the classic screen performances.
He returned to the role of Norman Bates for the sequels, Psycho II, Psycho III and Psycho IV: The Beginning.
Among his Broadway credits are the Frank Loesser musical Greenwillow (1960) and Bernard Slade's 1979 play Romantic Comedy opposite Mia Farrow.
Perkins was bisexual, having had affairs with a number of men, including 1950s and 1960s film stars Rock Hudson and Tab Hunter, dancer Rudolf Nureyev, composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim and dancer-choreographer Grover Dale. He married Berry Berenson.
Perkins died at age 60, on September 12, 1992, from complications of AIDS.
