America Georgine Ferrera is an American actress, who currently stars in Ugly Betty.

In 2002 she made her film debut in Real Women Have Curves. For this role she earned a Sundance Jury Award for "Best Actress"; an Independent Spirit Award nomination for "Best Debut Performance"; as well as a Young Artist Award nomination for "Best Performance for a Leading Young Actress."

Next she landed roles in both television (Touched by an Angel) and film (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and Lords of Dogtown).

In 2006, she landed the lead role in Ugly Betty, a comedy-drama series for ABC, which debuted in the fall of 2006. The show is an adaptation of the Colombian hit telenovela Betty La Fea. While Ferrera is generally regarded as physically attractive, she portrays a girl that her peers regard as unattractive, thus the series title. As title character Betty Suarez, Ferrera wears braces on her teeth; the braces are fake, however, and she does not wear them in real life.
